cagewarsMMA Big Show: CAGE WARS Results & Recap

What a night! 11 of the most well matched fights I've ever seen in the Tri-State thanks to the Matchmaking talents of JL Barger and the Fight Teams who participated. Cage Wars was a huge success and Specyphi rocked the house! Here are the results of the event.

Ashford McQueen defeated Kirk Miller in Round 2 by TKO

Good fight but Kirk should consider training more and getting to his goal of 205. Every time he gets close, he takes a HW fight and then gains weight. It's hard to be competitive against guys 20 to 50lbs larger.

Zac Carpenter defeated Robert Rothwell by Rear Naked Choke in RD 1 (Team BSG's first win of the night)

Cody Cross scored his first win against Mitchell Bishop via Decision (2nd Team BSG win of the night)

Cody has all the heart in the world. He got stunned silly for a moment in the first round and recovered to go the distance. His first fight back in 5 years, Cody fought hard against a tough opponent.

Jeremy Craig defeated Trey Furguson via Arm Bar in Round 1

Matt Hay defeated Scotty Parker via 2nd Round Leg Triangle

Stephen Flanagan defeated Justin Houk via First Round TKO (1st Team BSG loss of the night)

This was a true test for Justin Houk as he fought someone much heavier than him with a very strong wrestling background. I think it could go either way in a rematch.

Charles Dove defeated Mike Dabe by Decision

I haven't seen Mike Dabe fight in a while but he's certainly improved. Team Genocides Charles Dove is on a rip through weight classes as he dominated at 185 and now hes burning through 170. His wrestling skills are of the best in the Tri-State and as such, nobody is apparently able to stop his takedowns earning him multiple decision victories.

Keith Willaims defeated Cortez Phelia via 3rd Round TKO earning him the 135lb Title (3rd Team BSG win of the night)

This was a war, plain and simple. Cortez was very impressive to say the least as he kept his composure through the entire fight, never looking anxious or flustered. Keith looked tired but apparently wasn't as he kept turning it on towards the end of each round nearly ending the fight each time. I'd actually like to see a rematch between the two some day.

Kevin Cousins defeated Michael Ormes due to Ormes not answering the bell between rounds. (Team BSG's 2nd loss of the night)

Now, this was painful for me to see. Michael Ormes has been overseas for a year, comes back, trains his heart out every day, coaches etc, then he passes over 30 kidney stones. Shortly after he began training again and wanted a fight. I'm not sure if it was the weight cut for the fight or if he took a shot to the kidneys, but ultimately, Ormes had to bail after the first round giving him his first loss in 4 fights. To be honest, Kevin Cousins looked good and regardless of how the fight ended, it was a good round for Cousins.

Nathan Murrell defeated Justin Weeks as Justin failed to answer the bell after round 1. (Team BSG's 4th win of the night)

I have to hand it to Justin Weeks. You see, Justin doesn't fight to be a fighter. He just enjoys the rush and does the best he can. We had trouble finding someone willing to step up against Nathan because of his size and looks. Justin went to JL and asked for the opportunity. His reason? "I just hate it when they guys train so hard and don't end up with fights". Our theory on the potential matchup was, Nathan just recently started working on his ground game, hes strong as a bull but still raw. Justin is about the same as far as experience but hes big and tough. Justin has lost due to guys taking him down which we knew Nathan wouldn't and Justin hits hard with his haymakers, so, even though Nathan looks like a Greek God, we knew the fight would be a fair match so we let it go. The result? It was a war! Justin ended up breaking his foot however and didn't return for round two which honestly, could have gone either way had it happened.

TJ Wash defeats Mickey Tyler for the 155lb Title via 3rd Round Tapout to Strikes (Team BSG's 5th win of the night)

What can you say about this fight other than it was great! Tyler is a gamer, trains hard and fights hard. Very respectable fighter and took the fight knowing not many others were willing to try their hand against the 5-0 contender. TJ Wash is just such a well composed freak of nature that I don't see anyone taking his new Title anytime soon...I know TJ is wanting the best 5-0/7-0 contender to step up and try and take it.

Overall, the show was a huge success! Team BSG went 5-2 for the night and every fight was just pure action. JL Barger has proven once again why he's the number one Match Maker in the State of Ohio if not the Tri-State. Kudos to him on a well crafted card!

October 29th is going to be one of the biggest shows in Tri-State history. Details coming soon!
